Held early in the morning (before lifts open) in mid August it is pretty much what it says, a race from the top of the mountain to the bottom. It is sort of a GS style race with pretty much any type of ski or board allowed with normally around 150 entrants. Prizes include cash, ski and board setups from Rossignol, and free season passes for the following season.

The count-down is on for the first Tour de France event to be held in Australia! L’Étape Australia by Le Tour de France is a cycling event run under professional conditions for amateurs, with closed roads, a challenging route, a Sprint and a King of the Mountain section. L’Étape Australia offers two levels of participation, both on fully closed roads under professional race conditions and each featuring the King of the Mountain and Sprint sections. Adhering to the look, feel and delivery levels of the Tour de France, L’Étape Australia will bring the Tour de France to the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales. The ultimate challenge in Australian amateur cycling, the Race covers almost 160km of challenging road with over 3,000 height meters. A shorter version of the Race, the Ride is a timed ride for those who wish to immerse themselves in the atmosphere and experience of L’Étape without the added pressure of racing. At almost 130km and over 1,800 height meters the Ride is still a significant challenge. The routes will be announced in early 2016 and are currently subject to final road authority approvals.
